Ginger is a flowering plant whose rhizome, ginger root or simply ginger, is widely used as a spice or a folk medicine. A herbaceous perennial grows annual pseudostems about a meter tall bearing narrow leaf blades. Inflorescences bear pale yellow / purple flowers, arise directly from the rhizome on separate shoots. Belong to family Zingiberaceae, Ginger originated from forest of subcontinent Southern Asia where ginger plants show considerable genetic variation.
