Nutrient solutions
There are twenty mineral elements considered necessary or beneficial for plant growth. Carbon (C), hydrogen (H), and oxygen (O), nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K), calcium (Ca), magnesium (Mg), and sulphur (S) are required by plants in large amounts. are supplied by air and water
The rest are required in trace amounts (micronutrients). Essential trace elements include boron (B), chloride (Cl), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn), sodium (Na), zinc (Zn), molybdenum (Mo), and nickel (Ni).
Beneficial mineral elements include silicon (Si) and cobalt (Co). The beneficial elements may only be essential for some plants. Cobalt for instance is essential for nitrogen fixation in legumes. It may also inhibit ethylene formation and extend the life of cut roses. Silicon, deposited in cell walls, has been found to improve heat and drought tolerance and increase resistance to insects and fungal infections. Excess silicon can cause strawberries to remain white when ripe. Silicon can help plants deal with toxic levels of manganese, iron, phosphorus and aluminum as well as zinc deficiency.
The most productive approach includes mineral elements at levels beneficial for optimum growth.
As plants grow their requirements change and so the nutrient solution must also be changed to keep the plants growing at their optimum. Ammonia has an adverse effect and needs to be kept to a minimum.
Iron and Manganese ions oxidize and precipitate out of solution causing problems of staining and nutrient deficiency. This process is exacerbated when the water is sanitized with UV light or chemicals. Magnets in the nutrient flow will attract and remove Iron oxide (it is magnetic) keeping the plant root systems and sterilizers cleaner.
Plants use some nutrients like nitrates at a faster rate than other nutrients. This causes the solution pH to increase requiring the addition of acids like Phosphoric Acid or Nitric Acid.
A major difficulty in using recirculating solutions is management of the nutrient balance. This is much more difficult than with non-recirculating systems.
Open systems do a run to waste with the nutrient solution. Closed systems collect the nutrient solution and reuse it. For closed systems a wide range of collection systems are in use, many developed and sold by supply companies. They can vary greatly in initial cost and no type yet dominates the market. The basis of the operation of a typical closed substrate system is as follows: about 30% excess is run off from the medium, collected in channels and stored in a tank. This is then pumped through a sterilizer. The sterilized solution is mixed with fresh nutrient solution to make the feed to the drippers.
Most growers still use A and B concentrated nutrient tanks, but using the single liquid fertilizer makes changing formulations much easier.
Please find below a basic recipe for preparation of Hydroponics Nutrient Solutions for various stages of plant growth (Vegetative, Flowering & Fruiting). This is a general purpose recipe.

Uses:

It gives all essential six elements to the crop, which helps in correcting various deficiencies of the plant & in turn benefits it with a higher yield & healthy crop."
How to Prepare the Solution
Iron Chelate Solution – Take 10 Liter can with water and add the 1000 gm Chelated Iron and dissolve it. Once dissolved, this is good for 1000 L of feed water. Use it as 1:100 ratio.
A note about Water Quality and pH.
Water Quality – It is very important that the quality of water is good. Softened bore water is a big no no for Hydroponics due to the addition of NaCl during the ion exchange process. Ideally you should be using RO water or Rain water. In case you have to use municipal water let it sit for a day to get rid of the chlorine. pH – It is important to maintain the correct pH. You would need a pH meter to check for pH. So far no need to decrease the pH (acidify) of the solution when using RO water. You can use Cooking Soda for increasing the pH while vinegar or citric acid or diluted Sulphuric acid (battery acid) for decreasing the pH.

Product Description Oasis Cubes Oasis® Cubes are a commercially available solution for starting cuttings and seeds, and for growing plants in an indoor setting. They are made of foam, and are completely inert, which means they have no impact on an environment's pH. Urban Farm offers good quality Oasis cubes in India which is economical for farmers. Oasis cubes perform efficiently in all hydroponic techniques. Oasis Cubes, or more properly, cubes made from Oasis foam or Oasis Horticubes, are designed to provide a soilless growing medium for plant roots that is capable of supplying water steadily, without affecting the pH of the growing environment. In appearance, they are similar to rockwool cubes, but they are made of a different material. Oasis Cubes have no effect on pH. They are also completely sterile, so no sterilization is needed before use. Oasis Cubes are pre-drilled and come with either top grooves, or both top and bottom grooves. Single dibble options are also available. Also note that these cubes contain no fertilizer, which allows the grower complete control over plant nutrition. All cubes arrive in sheets, and the grower simply needs to insert seeds or root cuttings into each pre-drilled hole. Then, the entire sheet can be watered (even partially submerged if so desired). When the plants reach optimal height for transplantation, individual cubes can be cut from the sheet, and the plant can be transplanted, cube and all. Oasis Cubes offer several important benefits. Capillary action through the foam ensures a constant supply of water for plant roots and seeds. However, the lower density of the foam keeps the top of the cube sheet drier, which helps to combat the growth of algae.
